Fig Vanilla Jam

Fig Vanilla Jam – a deliciously sweet jam made with ripe figs and just a hint of vanilla.

  • 400 gms – 14 oz. figs quartered
  • 200 gms – 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  1. Mix the quartered figs and sugar in a pot.
  2. Cook, stirring, for about 20 to 30 minutes or until thick.
  3. After 15 minutes, add the vanilla extract.
  4. While the jam is cooking, put a small plate in the freezer.
  5. After 20 minutes, when the jam appears like it is beginning to gel, put the fire off.
  6. Put a small amount of jam on the frozen plate and return it to the freezer for a few minutes. If it wrinkles when you nudge it, it’s ready. If not, cook it some more and test it again until it’s ready.
  7. Store the jam in sterilised jars.

Recipe Notes

If you prefer, you can blend the jam with a hand blender before storing it in the sterilised jars.
