Sweet Yogurt Braids

  • 400 gms – 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 100 gms - 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 50 gms – ¼ cup butter melted
  • 250 gms vanilla yogurt
  • 7 gms – 2 tsp active dry yeast melted in 2 tbsp warm water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • ½ lemon zest
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Milk and granulated sugar for the top


  1. Mix together the melted butter and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the yogurt, honey, vanilla essence, and lemon zest.
  3. Put the flour, the yeast melted in water, the yogurt mix and the butter and sugar mix in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the hook attachment.
  4. Add the salt and knead for at least 10 minutes or until the dough is very smooth.
  5. Make into a bowl and let it rise for 2 hours.
  6. Divide the dough into 9 pieces. Divide each piece in 3 and roll each of them into ropes.
  7. Line the ropes side-by-side and braid them together. Seal the ends.
  8. Place on a cookie sheet lined with baking paper and repeat with the rest of the dough.
  9. Let them rise again for 1h30.
  10. Gently brush them with milk and dust with granulated sugar.
  11. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 175°C – 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
