Apple Orange Hand Pies

Apple Orange Hand Pies - quick and easy to make, with a soft sweet apple and marmalade filling.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry thawed
  • 2 apples cored and diced
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 30 gms – 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 tsp marmalade
  • 1 ½ teaspoons apple pie spice mix click here for the recipe
  • 1 egg beaten

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the apples into small cubes.
  2. Put it in a sauce pan with the brown sugar, apple spice mix, butter and marmalade.
  3. Cook on a low fire until soft. You may need to add a little water, depending on the apples you are using. Let the filling cool down.
  4. Use a 13 cm – 5 inch round cookie cutter to cut the dough into 8-10 circles.
  5. Add one heaping tablespoon of filling to the center of each dough circle, leaving as much liquid behind as possible.
  6. Fold the dough in half and use your fingers or a fork to seal the edges.
  7. Place hand pies on prepared baking sheet.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk the egg. Use a pastry brush to lightly brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash.
  9. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C – 355°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Allow the hand pies to cool and serve.
