Nonna’s Poached Pears

Nonna’s Poached Pears - my grandmother's recipe for a very simple and healthy dessert!

  • 600 grams – 1 1/3 lbs. small cooking pears I used Crystal pears
  • 7 tbsp granulated sugar


  1. Wash the pears and put them in a big enough pot.
  2. Cover them with cold water and put the pot on the stove. Bring it to a boil and simmer until the pears are soft, but not mushy.
  3. When ready, take them out one by one and immediately pour the sugar over them. Make sure the pears are still hot when you do this, as you want the sugar to partially melt to create a delicious syrup.
  4. Put them in the fridge for a couple of hours.
  5. Serve with the syrup on top.
