Frozen Margaritas Recipe

Ready for your next taco night, these Frozen Margaritas are cold, slushy, and refreshing, with sweet-tart citrus flavour and a classic salted rim.

Course: Drinks
Cuisine: Mexican
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 355 ml – 12 oz frozen limeade concentrate*
  • 1 cup – 8 oz tequila
  • ¼ cup – 2 oz Triple Sec – orange-flavoured liqueur, I used Grand Marnier
  • juice of 2 limes – plus 1 lime for garnish
  • 4 or 5 cups ice
  • kosher salt or margarita salt – I used coarse salt blended in a mixer for a few seconds

Instructions

  1. Add the limeade concentrate, tequila, Triple Sec or orange liqueur, and lime juice to a blender. Blend briefly until well combined.

  2. Add the ice and blend until smooth, with no ice chunks remaining.
  3. Cut the remaining lime in half and rub it around the rims of the glasses. Dip the rims in salt to coat.
  4. Garnish each glass with a slice of lime and serve.

Make-Ahead Mason Jar Margaritas

  1. Pour the blended Margaritas into ½ pint – 1 cup mason jars. Secure the lids and freeze.
  2. Remove the jars from the freezer and immediately invert them to dip the rims in salt while the Margaritas are still firmly frozen.

  3. Use a fork to break up and stir the semi-frozen Margaritas until they reach a slushy consistency.
  4. Serve immediately, or enjoy straight from the jar with a spoon, like a granita.
  5. Store the Margaritas in the freezer for up to a couple of weeks.

Recipe Notes

*Limeade concentrates vary in sweetness and strength. Mine was quite tart but already sweet, so I wouldn’t add extra sugar. Start with a little less concentrate, taste, and add more as needed.
