National Prevention Week 2012

RULES OF PARTICIPATION
The Event
LILT Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori Sezione di Genova (The Italian Association against Cancer, Genoa branch) is hosting a cooking contest for the XI year of the Cancer Prevention Week which will take place between March 17th and 25th.

Goal
The goal of the contest is to spread the knowledge and use of herbs, and extra virgin olive oil which is the symbol of the campaign, by exchanging ideas and knowledge about the ways in which they are used with the aim of introducing their utilization as part of a daily habit for healthy eating, according to the criteria promoted by the Cancer Prevention Week (see the LINK LIBRETTO PREVENZIONE LILT 2012)

Information about the ingredients
The difference between herbs and spices is given by their look: spices come from different parts of a plant (the flowers, buds, rhizomes, roots, bark, seeds etc.) and are characterised by their high percentage of aromatics which are mainly due to essential oils and resinous substances; the so called aromatic herbs, instead, are cultivated or uncultivated species used mainly for their leaves.

Selection
Contestants will have to send their recipes by and no later than March 16th 2012 at 12PM (Italian time) by email to: info@legatumori.genova.it or by mail to
Sede della Sezione Genovese LILT,
Via Caffaro 4/1,
16124 Genova, Italy.
Ph: +39 010 2530160

The Jury
The recipes will be judged by an ad hoc Selection Committee which will include:
Dr Andrea Puppo – President of the LILT branch of Genova
LILT Dieticians LILT – Dr Gloria Noli and Dr Miriam Cornicelli
Marilisa Bombonato, Curator of Cucina Consapevole
Nicole Provenzali, Food-blogger for ricetteveg.com and Cucina Consapevole
They will judge the recipes according to the following criteria:
Bearing with the Contest theme
Originality of the dish
Healthiness of the ingredients used
Anticancer properties of the ingredients used
Seasonality and biodiversity of the ingredients used

The submitted recipe should work on the presumption that loving and taking care of oneself begins with what we eat: the seasons, the specific characteristics and the variety of all the ingredients that we find in nature are the greatest gift that we have in our kitchens!

The award ceremony
The award ceremony will take place on March 21st 2012 during the dinner at Berio Cafè that is organised for the National Cancer Prevention Week.

The first ranked contestant will receive a set comprising of 2 Lagostina pots and his/her recipe will be featured as part of the dinner Menu during the award ceremony.

All the participants from the province of Genoa will become “Amici LILT” and will be able to access our services with a 10% discount on the fee. (www.legatumori.genova.it)

All the participants that do not win but have satisfied all the above criteria according to the Jury, will receive on behalf of LILT and Cucina Consapevole a certificate of participation and their recipes will be published in a recipe booklet, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Project “Ancora Donna” [“Still a Woman”].

The contestants transfer to LILT all their rights relating to the recipes, material and photographs, so that the recipes can be published on the website www.legatumori.genova.it, in the recipe booklet the proceeds of which will be donated to the Project “Ancora Donna”, and also for any further publication and the related TV rights.

After sharing the scrambled eggs and tomato toast After sharing the scrambled eggs and tomato toast recently, I thought it would be a good time to highlight one of my favourite herb blends 🌿

Herbes de Provence is a traditional French herb blend usually made with herbs such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, and savoury.

It's a simple way to add extra flavour to everyday ingredients and works especially well with eggs, tomatoes, roasted vegetables, potatoes, chicken, and soups.

Have you used Herbes de Provence before?

Ever wondered why your iced matcha tastes differen Ever wondered why your iced matcha tastes different every time?

It’s not just about the ingredients. Small details like the quality of the matcha, how you sift it, and how you whisk it can completely change the result.

Even the texture and colour can tell you a lot before you even take a sip.

Once you start paying attention to these steps, it becomes much easier to get a smoother, more balanced matcha at home 🍵
