Sweet and spooky Strawberry Ghosts combine juicy fresh strawberries, melted white chocolate, and little black icing faces. Enjoy these no-bake Halloween treats at parties and celebrations with family.

White chocolate strawberry ghosts make a fun Halloween dessert without baking or complicated preparation. The combination of fresh fruit and sweet chocolate offers a change from traditional Halloween sweets.
Children can help decorate the funny ghost faces, which makes this recipe a great choice for family celebrations.

I also like serving them with my Marzipan Pumpkins for a colourful contrast, Halloween Ghost Cookies for something buttery and crisp, and Ghastly Bark for an extra chocolate treat.
Reasons to Make Strawberry Ghosts
- You can make a batch with ingredients commonly available at supermarkets.
- Children can help decorate the ghosts with their favourite expressions.
- Individual portions make treats convenient for Halloween parties, especially when serving desserts.
Key Ingredients for Strawberry Ghosts
Fresh Strawberries
Fresh strawberries add a juicy texture and a slightly tart flavour that balances the sweet chocolate. Choose ripe, firm berries with natural sweetness and no soft spots.
White Chocolate
White chocolate adds a rich, creamy flavour and a firm coating that contrasts with the juicy strawberries. Good-quality white chocolate with cocoa butter gives a smoother texture and better flavour.
Black Decorating Icing
Black decorating icing gives the ghosts their playful expressions without adding much flavour. A fine-tipped writing icing or gel works well for neat eyes and mouths.

How to Make Strawberry Ghosts
Step 1: Line a tray with baking paper. Wash the strawberries and pat them completely dry, including around the leaves.
Step 2: Place the chopped white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water. Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir until the chocolate melts and becomes smooth.
Note: Alternatively, melt the white chocolate in the microwave in short intervals, stirring between intervals until smooth.
Step 3: Hold a strawberry by its leaves and dip it into the melted white chocolate. Lift it out and let the excess chocolate drip off. Repeat with the remaining strawberries.
Step 4: Place the coated strawberries on the prepared tray, with a small amount of chocolate pooling at the bottom to give them a ghost-like shape.
Step 5: Allow the chocolate to set completely before drawing two eyes and a mouth with black decorating icing or writing gel. Let the decorations set before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fresh strawberries work best because they retain their firm texture and shape. Frozen strawberries release moisture as they thaw, which can make the chocolate coating uneven and the fruit mushy.
White chocolate chips, white candy melts, and melting wafers work as alternatives to a white chocolate bar. Some chocolate chips produce a thicker coating. Milk or dark chocolate also works, but the ghosts will look darker.
Yes. You can use a fork or dipping tool to hold the strawberries, although keeping the leaves intact makes dipping easier and helps avoid damaging the fruit.
Miniature chocolate chips, edible candy eyes, or melted dark chocolate work well. Add chocolate chips or candy eyes before the white coating sets to help them stick. Melted dark chocolate works better for drawing faces after the coating firms up.
Extra Help from the Kitchen
Let the Strawberries Warm Up – Take them out of the fridge about 15–30 minutes before dipping. Very cold strawberries can develop condensation and affect the chocolate coating.
Use a Small, Deep Bowl – Pour the melted chocolate into a narrow bowl to dip the strawberries more easily without needing extra chocolate.
Test the Icing First – Squeeze a bit of black icing onto baking paper before decorating. You’ll get a feel for how quickly it comes out and avoid messy faces.
Keep the Chocolate Smooth – Warm the chocolate gently again if it starts to thicken. It’ll be easier to dip the remaining strawberries without getting a thick, uneven coating.
Variations and Twists
Add Candy Eyes – Replace the black icing eyes with edible candy eyes for a fun, cartoon-like appearance. Press them gently onto the white chocolate before it sets.
Pipe Dark Chocolate Faces – Use melted dark chocolate instead of black decorating icing for the eyes and mouths. The darker chocolate adds a slightly richer flavour.
Decorate with Halloween Sprinkles – Scatter orange, purple, or black sprinkles over the chocolate before it sets. They add colour and a slight crunch to the strawberries.
Create Mummy Strawberries – Drizzle thin lines of melted white chocolate across the coated strawberries to resemble mummy bandages. Finish with candy eyes for a different Halloween design.
Try Pumpkin Strawberries – Dip the strawberries in orange candy melts instead of white chocolate, then draw jack-o’-lantern faces with black icing for a pumpkin-themed version.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Strawberry Ghosts in a single layer in a container lined with kitchen paper and loosely covered in the fridge. Enjoy them within 24 hours for the best taste and texture, although they can keep for up to 48 hours.
Avoid leaving them out for too long, especially in warm weather. Freezing isn’t recommended because the strawberries become soft and watery after thawing. Serve them chilled or let them sit briefly at room temperature before serving.
