Here I am, back with another recipe for home-made liqueur! And this time it uses strawberries. In fact, the name Fragolino comes from the Italian word fragola, which means strawberry. This is a typical Italian recipe and many people make it at home. As it is spring time in the Northern hemisphere and I have just come back from Europe where we had some delicious strawberries, I had to share this now! I love the sweet strawberry taste of this liqueur… not to mention the beautiful intense pink colour! The recipe itself is very easy, but it does require a 60 day “resting time”, so keep that in mind if you need it for a specific date! Enjoy! Cheers!
Fragolino Liqueur - how to make a delicious strawberry liqueur at home!
- 1 kg – 2.2 lbs. strawberries
- 1 lt – 4 cups alcohol 95% or 151 proof grain alcohol or 1 ¼ lt – 5 cups Vodka
- 1 lt – 4 cups water
- 650 gms – 3 ¼ cups granulated sugar
Put the strawberries in a big glass jar and cover them with the alcohol. Close the jar with a tight lid and keep it in a dark place for 30 days.
After the 30 days, make a syrup by mixing the water and sugar and heating until dissolved. Let the syrup cool down completely.
Filter the strawberry alcohol and mix the alcohol with the cold sugar syrup. Pour into a jar and let it rest in a dark place for another 30 days.
When the 30 days are up, filter it again and bottle it up.
Serve very cold.
