Toollio Review

November 6, 2014 By Manu 5 Comments

Toollio 10 (1 of 1)

As you know, I love making things from scratch… I have tried my hands at making all kinds of pasta, liqueurs and even cheese. I must admit though that one of the things I like the most making from scratch is smallgoods and sausages.  I like the fact that you can be very creative and always come up with different combinations of flavour!  So, when I was recently asked to review Toollio, I was thrilled.  Toollio is a unique multi-function food processor that also allows you to grind your favourite cuts of meat and make sausages.  But the best thing about this device is its versatility: yes, it has many more functions that other similar machines do not have.  Are you ready to discover them with me?

The device itself is very sturdy and stylish in its red and silver colour combination.  All the attachments are of aluminium and stainless steel and are very resistant, which is something I was very impressed with.

The Toollio is the first professional robot that combines multiple functions in a single device and it comes with various attachments for unlimited possibilities.  The Toollio can become a meat grinder, a meat tenderiser, a cheese grater or a vegetable cutter in just a few seconds.  I love multi-function machines because they save you space, which, let’s face it, is vital in modern kitchens that aren’t as big as they used to be.

All the attachments are easy to assemble and to wash.  The device itself is very easy to operate, as all you need to do is assemble the attachment you need and then press the “ON” button.  In no time, you will have your work done.

But let’s see what the Toollio can do in more detail.  It is a:

Meat Grinder – the attachment’s components are made from stainless steel making them extremely robust and very easy to clean.  I found it very easy both to assemble and to operate.

What I love about being able to grind meat at home is that I can choose the cut of meat I want to grind.  This gives me the best results for any recipe I make, as I can decide how lean or fatty I want my mince to be and, as you know, different dishes have different requirements.  Besides, I know exactly what goes into my mince!

Sausage Filler – a funnel turns the meat grinder into a professional sausage filler.  It is very easy to use and I was quite impressed with the results.

Tomato Mincer – yes, you got that right!  Simply by using its sausage filler’s funnel, the meat grinder can also turn into a tomato processor.  This allows you to make tomato purée quickly and easily.  No more store bought passata for me, as fresh tomatoes taste so much better and now I can make my own purée in a matter of minutes!

Cheese Grater – this is one of the most exciting features for me.  You know I use a lot of finely grated cheese in my cooking (especially Parmigiano or Pecorino)… and I have always grated it by hand.  I do this because when you buy your cheese already grated from your deli, it dries up pretty fast and soon enough you will be left with something more similar to sawdust than grated cheese.  So, I always grate cheese as I need it, but it is a tedious and time consuming task.

Toollio Grater 6 (1 of 1)

The Toollio’s cheese grater attachment has solved my problem, as it grates cheese very quickly and as fine as I like it.  So, no more hand grater for me!

Even though it was born as a “cheese” grater, it also grates cookies and bread, allowing you to make your own breadcrumbs and reducing waste.  Don’t you just hate to throw away stale bread??

And, above all, it has a safety switch that only allows the grater to function when the lever is lowered, which means it is completely safe and you don’t have to worry about grating your fingers!

Vegetable Cutter – this is another great feature.

Toollio Veg 3 (1 of 1)

The cutter comes with three interchangeable cones, so it cuts vegetables into slices, julienne pieces and it even chops!  Easy to use and perfect for every need!  It also comes with a protective sheet that lets you change cones without fear of cutting your hands.

Mozzarella Chopper – the chopping cone can also be used as mozzarella chopper.  No need to buy shredded “mozzarella” at the supermarket (or what I call “plastic cheese” ;-p).  Now you can quickly make your own, using fresh mozzarella (or fior di latte)… which makes pizza night even more convenient and the pizza definitely tastier.

Meat Tenderiser – this is yet another very useful attachment.

It has steel blades and can easily and quickly tenderise any cut of boneless meat, so your steak will never be tough or chewy.

To have a better idea on how easy it is to operate the Toollio, check out this video (in Italian, but with English subtitles).

I have personally tested the machine and all its attachments and I was very happy with the results.  I do recommend it to all the people who enjoy cooking like me: it will save you a lot of time and effort and it will make your life in the kitchen so much easier!   I will be sharing a few recipes that I have developed using the Toollio in the next few weeks, so that you can get a better idea of what you can actually do with it and how versatile and convenient it really is.  So, stay tuned!

Toollio, is made in Italy by a very reputable brand – Tre Spade – famous for its cooking appliances and meat grinders, so you can be sure of its quality and reliability.  It is distributed in Australia by Butcher at Home, a company that has been selling sausage making supplies and home butcher equipment since 1908!  Make sure to check out their website for any further information and stay tuned for some delicious recipes using the Toollio.
