I made these Paw Print Cupcakes for my daughter’s 5th birthday party. The theme was “kittens”, as Georgia loves cats, so these cupcakes fitted the bill perfectly. Not only, they were also very easy to make and decorate and the results were excellent. I love how they look! I made some vanilla cupcakes as a base and then decorated them with Nutella Icing and marshmallows. The Nutella Icing is an absolute keeper. I fell in love with it. To be honest, I don’t usually like buttercream icing that much, but this won me over. It is Nutella, in a creamier form. Heaven! If you are a Nutella lover like me, you will love it. Try these cupcakes and let me know… Enjoy!

Vanilla and Nutella Paw Print Cupcakes - a fun idea and a delicious recipe!
- 1 ½ cups – 190 gms flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- ½ cup – 115 gms unsalted butter at room temperature
- 1 cup – 125 gms + 2 tbsp packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ cup – 120 ml buttermilk
- 2 tbsp milk
- 75 gms – 1/3 cup butter softened
- 225 gms – ½ quart icing sugar
- 95 gms – ½ cup Nutella
- 20 gms – 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1.5 tsp vanilla essence
- Mini marshmallows
- Regular marshmallows
Preheat the oven to 165°C – 330°F and line muffin trays with muffins liners.
Combine the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl and set aside. Then cream the butter and brown sugar using an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment until pale and fluffy.
Add the vanilla and the eggs, one at a time, beating until well incorporated. Remember to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. Add the flour mixture in three batches, alternating it with two additions of buttermilk and milk. Beat until well combined.
Put the batter into the lined muffin tray cups, filling each to 2/3. Bake for about 25 minutes or until cooked through. When cooked, let them cool down in the tray for 10 minutes, then put them on a wire rack to cool down completely.
Put the Nutella Icing in a piping bag and decorate the vanilla cupcakes with it. Do not put too much icing.
Decorate with the marshmallow paws.

Manu the cupcakes are amazing, it was my first time making cupcakes, thanks for the recipe. The icing was a bit to sweet for me, what can i do to make it less sweet. TIA
Hi Irene! I am very glad you liked the cupcakes! You can definitely use less icing sugar in the icing to make it less sweet! 🙂
