Fiordilatte Gelato #SundaySupper

Fiordilatte Gelato

Welcome to this week’s #SundaySupper event! This Sunday the #SundaySupper team has organised an Italian Fest!
Being Italian, when the Italian theme was announced, I knew I had to host it. This is the first #SundaySupper event I host and I am really excited, especially since it will be showcasing some amazing Italian food!
I am very excited about today’s recipe as Fiordilatte Gelato is one of the most popular flavours in Italy, so much so that it is often used as a “base” for other flavours. It’s a very simple and creamy vanilla gelato, perfect to eat with your favourite topping. I love it with my Orange Caramel Sauce, while my chocolate lover kids always have it with some of my Home-made Chocolate Syrup. To tell you the truth, it is also delicious on its own thanks to its delicate vanilla flavour. How about you, do you like toppings? And what’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

Fiordilatte Gelato

Fiordilatte Gelato - a very simple and creamy vanilla gelato, perfect to eat with your favourite topping and one of the most popular flavours in Italy.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: Italian
Prep Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 1 lt - 4 cups
Author: Manuela Zangara

Ingredients

  • Ingedients
  • 400 ml – 1 2/3 cups heavy cream
  • 500 ml – 2 cups whole milk
  • 160 gms – ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk and sugar in a pot until the mixture reaches 80°C – 176°F. Chill.
  2. Add the cream and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Churn it in your ice cream maker for 20 to 30 minutes or according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. When ready, transfer to a container, cover it and put it in the freezer for at least 2 hours or until ready to serve.
  5. If you do not have an ice cream maker, you can pour the mixture in a container, put some cling wrap on the top (it has to actually be in contact with the ice cream) to seal it completely and then cover it with a lid. This should prevent crystallization.
  6. Then put it in the freezer overnight.
  7. Serve it plain or with your favourite topping like my home-made chocolate syrup or orange caramel sauce.

I think fiordilatte may have been one of the first Italian words I learned (next to ciao) when I lived near Naples for a couple years. It is my kids favorite flavor of gelato. I love this recipe and will definitely try it at home. Thank you! I’m loving your blog Manu. 🙂
