Today’s recipe brings back very fond memories of my grandmother Bice. She was a fantastic cook and she could whip up amazing dishes. These easy pears though were like a trademark. Only she could turn something so simple into a fingerlicking dessert. To make this recipe, you need small cooking pears that are still hard to the touch. The key is obviously to choose tasty pears as the recipe itself is very simple and the flavour of the fruit is what shines through in the end. Every time I eat them, I think of my grandmother… so I decided to call them “Nonna’s Poached Pears”. You don’t really need to complicate your life when you can make delicious and healthy food with just 2 ingredients! Enjoy!

Nonna’s Poached Pears
Nonna’s Poached Pears - my grandmother's recipe for a very simple and healthy dessert!
Ingredients
- 600 grams – 1 1/3 lbs. small cooking pears I used Crystal pears
- 7 tbsp granulated sugar
Instructions
-
Wash the pears and put them in a big enough pot.
-
Cover them with cold water and put the pot on the stove. Bring it to a boil and simmer until the pears are soft, but not mushy.
-
When ready, take them out one by one and immediately pour the sugar over them. Make sure the pears are still hot when you do this, as you want the sugar to partially melt to create a delicious syrup.
-
Put them in the fridge for a couple of hours.
-
Serve with the syrup on top.
