Soft wrap with savoury ham, crisp lettuce, and juicy tomato, this Ham Wrap with Lettuce and Tomato comes together in minutes for a fresh, easy lunch.

After a stretch of plain food, I realised I was missing texture. A soft wrap, crisp lettuce, and juicy tomatoes brought that balance back in a simple way.

This is still a great option if you’re following a low-fat, almost fat-free diet. You can make it with regular mayonnaise and your favourite ham and wrap, depending on what you have on hand.

I used fat-free and low-fat ingredients when I first made it, and it still came together really well. It’s a simple lunch that feels light and fresh. Enjoy!

Reasons to Make a Ham Salad Wrap

  • Comes together quickly when you want something fresh without needing to cook or heat anything.
  • Stays easy to eat even when packed for later, as long as it’s wrapped well and kept chilled.
  • Helps use up leftover ham or salad before it starts to lose freshness and texture.

Key Ingredients for Ham Wrap

Ham

Ham brings savoury depth and a soft, slightly chewy texture. Thin slices layer well and keep the wrap easy to roll without tearing, and deli-style ham works best for even layering.

Lettuce

Lettuce adds crispness and a fresh contrast to the soft elements. It also helps separate moisture from the tomatoes, keeping the wrap from becoming soggy. Romaine or iceberg hold their crunch better than softer leaves.

Tomato

Tomato provides juiciness and a mild acidity that lifts the flavour. Firm, ripe tomatoes are ideal, as they hold their shape better and release less liquid when sliced.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise adds creaminess and brings the ingredients together. A fat-free or low-fat version still provides enough moisture while keeping the wrap lighter.

Rye or Wheat Wrap

The wrap keeps everything contained and easy to handle. A soft, flexible rye or wheat wrap rolls more easily without cracking. Rye adds a slightly deeper flavour, while wheat keeps it mild.

Find the complete list with measurements in the recipe card below.

How to Make a Ham Wrap

Step 1: Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise evenly over the wrap.

Step 2: Arrange the sliced ham over one side of the wrap.

Step 3: Top with lettuce and sliced tomatoes. Drizzle lightly with more mayonnaise.

Step 4: Roll the wrap tightly, then cut it in half.

Step 5: Serve immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of wrap works best for my Ham Wrap recipe?

Soft rye or wheat wraps work best because they roll easily without cracking. Thinner wraps also hold the filling more securely and make the wrap easier to slice cleanly.

Can I use a different type of ham?

Yes, most deli-style ham works well as long as it is thinly sliced. Thicker cuts can make the wrap uneven and harder to roll, especially when combined with the other ingredients.

How can I keep the wrap fresh for longer?

Use firm tomatoes and pat them dry before adding them to the wrap. Keep the mayonnaise light and spread it evenly to help prevent the wrap from becoming soggy as it sits.

What other dressings can I use instead?

You can try mustard, a light vinaigrette, or even a thin layer of pesto for a different flavour. Keep the amount light to avoid adding too much moisture.

How can I make the wrap more filling?

Add ingredients like cheese, avocado, or boiled egg to increase substance. These additions work well with the existing layers and keep the wrap balanced.

Extra Help from the Kitchen

Pat Tomatoes Dry – Lightly blot sliced tomatoes with kitchen paper before assembling to reduce excess moisture and help keep the wrap from softening too quickly.

Cut with a Sharp Knife – Use a sharp knife and slice in one clean motion to keep the layers intact and avoid pulling the filling out of place.

Don’t Overload the Wrap – Keep the filling balanced. The wrap rolls neatly and holds together without tearing or spilling.

Choose Thinly Sliced Ham – Thinner slices fold and layer more easily, making the wrap neater and easier to roll without tearing.

Don’t Overdo the Mayonnaise – Use just enough to coat lightly. Too much can make the wrap slippery and harder to hold together.

Variations and Twists

Ham and Cheese Wrap – Add a slice of Swiss, cheddar, or provolone with the ham for a softer texture and a slightly richer bite that melts slightly against the other ingredients.

Ham and Mustard Wrap – Spread a thin layer of mustard along with mayonnaise to add a sharper edge that balances the mild flavour of the ham.

Egg and Ham Wrap – Add sliced boiled egg with the ham for extra protein and a firmer texture that contrasts with the softer ingredients.

Ham and Avocado Wrap – Layer sliced avocado with the tomato for a creamier texture that adds body and pairs well with the saltiness of the ham.

Ham and Vegetable Wrap – Include sliced cucumber, bell peppers, or green onions to add crunch and a fresh contrast to the softer fillings.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store the wrap tightly wrapped in parchment or foil in the refrigerator. It is best eaten within a few hours for the best texture, as the lettuce and tomato release moisture over time.

For food safety, it can be kept in the fridge for up to 1 day, but the wrap will soften and lose its structure the longer it sits. Freezing is not recommended, as the lettuce and tomato lose their texture once thawed.
