I am very excited about today’s recipe! You may remember that, a few months ago, I shared the recipe for the classic Chocolate Salami. That’s the recipe I grew up eating and it will always have a special place in my heart. However, after publishing it, I got many requests for an eggless version. As this is a recipe that kids literally divour, I thought it would be a great idea to share a “safer” version too. So, here you have my Eggless Chocolate Salami recipe that can be enjoyed by everyone and it 100% safe to eat. It’s great to parties and get-togethers and it is really quick to make. To make it look more like a salami, roll it in icing sugar and tie it up with kitchen string… Enjoy and do let me know how you like it!
Eggless Chocolate Salami
Eggless Chocolate Salami - a safer version of a classic Italian dessert with the wow factor!
- 200 gms – 7 oz. plain cookies like Digestive or Scotch Fingers
- 70 gms – 1/3 cup toasted hazelnuts halved
- 70 gms cocoa – 2/3 cup powder
- 130 gms – 1 ¼ sticks butter
- 100 gms – ½ cup granulated sugar
- 70 gms – 2 ½ oz. dark chocolate roughly chopped
- 1 tbsp rum or milk
- 1 tbsp milk
- Icing sugar
Put the butter and dark chocolate in a pot and heat on medium. Stir until completely dissolved and smooth.
In a bowl, mix together the crushed cookies, halved toasted hazelnuts, cocoa powder and granulated sugar.
Transfer the mixture onto some baking paper and shape it into a salami.
Roll it tight in aluminium foil and place it in the fridge to harden for at least 3 hours (better if overnight).
When hard, roll it in icing sugar, slice it and serve it!
You can use some kitchen string to tie it up like a real salami if you like.
