I first made this tropical sweet cocktail when my friend Anna came to visit from Italy. We spent the evening cooking a Thai-inspired dinner together and mixed this drink to go with it. It turned out so good that I’ve made it many times since.

The mix of mango, passion fruit, and a splash of Italian Spumante dolce gives it a light, summery feel. You can use any sweet sparkling wine if you prefer. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did. Cheers from my kitchen to yours!

What Makes This Cocktail So Refreshing

  • Combines tropical fruit and sparkling wine in a way that feels light and perfectly matched.
  • Uses simple ingredients found almost anywhere, yet tastes fresh and light as if made on holiday.
  • Comes together quickly, making it ideal for easy entertaining or unexpected guests.

Key Ingredients for Mango and Passion Fruit Cocktail

Mango Juice

Gives the cocktail its golden colour and natural sweetness. Use ripe Alphonso or Kensington Pride mangoes for homemade juice, or 100% pure mango juice with no added sugar for a bright fruit flavour.

Vodka

Gives structure and a clean edge that cuts through the fruit’s sweetness. A smooth, neutral vodka works best, so the fruit flavours remain the focus.

Spumante Dolce

A sweet Italian sparkling wine that brings light bubbles and floral notes. If you prefer a lighter finish, use Moscato d’Asti or a semi-sweet Prosecco.

Passion Fruit

Brings a tangy contrast and a subtle crunch from the seeds. Use ripe passion fruit with wrinkled skin for full flavour and fragrance.

How to Make a Mango and Passion Fruit Cocktail

Step 1: Mix the mango juice, caster sugar, vodka, and lime juice in a jug or bowl until well combined.

Step 2: Pour the mixture into 4 Champagne flutes, filling each halfway.

Step 3: Top each flute with Spumante, then stir in ¼ of the passion fruit pulp.

Step 4: Serve cold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this fruit cocktail ahead of time?

You can prepare the mango mix up to 2 days in advance and store it in the fridge. Add the sparkling wine and passion fruit only when ready to serve so the bubbles stay fresh.

What can I use instead of Spumante Dolce?

Any sweet sparkling wine, such as Moscato or a lightly sweet Prosecco will work well. For a non-alcoholic version, try sparkling grape juice.

Can I use fresh mango instead of juice for this Mango and Passion Fruit Cocktail recipe?

Yes. Blend ripe mango with a little water until smooth, then strain for a clear, pourable juice. Adjust the sugar slightly to taste.

What goes well with mango and passion fruit?

This cocktail pairs well with seafood starters, Thai dishes, and light appetisers such as grilled prawns or spring rolls. It also complements tropical desserts like coconut panna cotta, fruit tart, or mango sorbet.

Extra Help from the Kitchen

Adjust Sweetness – Taste the mango mix before serving and add a little more caster sugar or lime juice if you prefer it sweeter or sharper.

Keep the Sparkle – Always pour the Spumante gently down the inside of the glass to help preserve the bubbles.

Chill the Glasses – Refrigerate or freeze your serving glasses for about 15 minutes before pouring to keep the cocktail cold longer.

Use Fresh Passion Fruit – Fresh fruit gives a brighter flavour and a cleaner texture than bottled pulp. The seeds add a gentle crunch, and the natural acidity balances the sweetness of the mango mix perfectly.

Avoid Overmixing – Stir the drink lightly once the Spumante is added; too much mixing will flatten the bubbles.

Variations and Twists

Make It Alcohol-Free – Replace the vodka with sparkling water and the Spumante with non-alcoholic sparkling grape juice for a bright mocktail everyone can enjoy.

Serve It Frozen – Blend the mango juice, vodka, sugar, and lime with ice until smooth, then top with sparkling wine for a chilled slushy cocktail.

Include Pineapple – Add a splash of pineapple juice to the mixture for a deeper tropical flavour and gentle sweetness.

Infuse with Mint – Muddle a few mint leaves into the mango mixture for a cool herbal lift that keeps the drink light and refreshing.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store the mango mix (without the sparkling wine) in a covered glass jug or bottle in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Stir well before using, as the sugar may settle at the bottom.

Once the Spumante or other sparkling wine has been added, serve the cocktail immediately to enjoy its freshness and fizz.
