Peppa Pig Muddy Puddle Cups

December 8, 2012 Last updated on October 19, 2025 By Manu 3 Comments

Bring giggles to little faces with Peppa Pig Muddy Puddle Cups. Creamy chocolate panna cotta, crumbly cookies, and sweet fizzy worms turn playtime in a cup into a tasty party treat.

If you have ever seen an episode of Peppa Pig, you will know Peppa’s favourite game is jumping up and down in muddy puddles. When I was planning Georgia’s birthday party, I wanted to bring that world to life in an edible way. I had spotted something similar on Pinterest while looking at Peppa Pig birthday inspiration, but I couldn’t find an exact recipe, so I created my own version.

Chocolate panna cotta became the base, silky, smooth, and indulgent, while cookie crumbs gave it a muddy look. To make them even more fun for the children, I added fizzy worms wriggling out of the puddles, a drizzle of chocolate syrup for the wet look, and little paper umbrellas for colour. They made the children giggle, and even the adults could not resist.

A dear friend told me they were like “paradise in a cup“! And I think she was right. Another sweet treat always loved at our parties is my Playful Kitten Cake, which sits so well alongside these Muddy Puddles.

What Makes Muddy Puddle Cups Irresistible

  • The recipe can be prepared ahead, which makes party planning easier.
  • Decorations can be swapped to fit different themes or occasions.
  • Children recognise the muddy puddle theme instantly and feel excited to see it at birthday parties.

Key Ingredients for Peppa Pig’s Muddy Puddle Cups

Dark Chocolate

I like using a good-quality dark chocolate because it melts smoothly and gives the panna cotta a deeper, more satisfying taste.

Cream

The cream makes the base soft and rich. It sets into a silky texture that melts on the spoon.

Chocolate Cookie Crumbs

Bring crunch, highlight the chocolate flavour, and create the playful muddy puddle look children instantly recognise.

Find the complete list with measurements in the recipe card below.

How to Make Muddy Puddle Cups

Step 1: Put the gelatine sheets in a bowl filled with cold water for 10 minutes or until soft.

Step 2: Put the cream, milk, and sugar in a pot and cook on a slow fire until the mixture boils. Remove from the fire and add the chopped chocolate and vanilla extract. Mix until melted. Squeeze the excess water from the gelatine sheets and add them to the hot chocolate cream. Mix until completely incorporated.

Step 3: Pour the chocolate mixture into small cups, filling them only halfway. Place in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Step 4: When ready to serve, sprinkle 1 or 2 teaspoons of chocolate cookie crumbs on the top.

Step 5: Decorate the Muddy Puddles with fizzy worms, cut in half to look like they are coming up from the mud. Add chocolate syrup for a “wet look” and finish each cup with a colourful paper umbrella.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need special moulds for panna cotta to make Muddy Puddle Cups?

No moulds are required. Small glass cups or clear plastic cups work perfectly and also let the layers show through.

How long does panna cotta need to set?

At least 4 hours in the fridge is enough, though overnight chilling gives the best texture and makes it easier for party prep.

Can I use powdered gelatine instead of sheets?

Yes, you can. Two teaspoons of powdered gelatine will replace the three gelatine sheets used in the recipe. Bloom the powder in cold water before adding it.

Extra Help from the Kitchen

Choose the Right Chocolate – Use chocolate with at least 60–70% cocoa for a richer flavour. Cheaper bars with lots of additives may not melt smoothly.

Serve in Small Portions – Panna cotta is rich, so small clear cups keep servings light and let the decorations stand out without overwhelming little guests.

Cut Worms Ahead of Time – Slice the fizzy worms in half before the party rush. They look like they are crawling out of the mud and are easier to place when prepped early.

Chill Cups on a Tray – Place all cups on a tray before refrigerating. This makes them easier to move in and out of the fridge without spilling.

Variations and Twist

Swap Dark Chocolate for Milk Chocolate – For a lighter, sweeter version that children may find more familiar, use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate in the panna cotta base.

Use Graham Crackers Instead of Cookies – If you do not have chocolate cookies, graham crackers crushed into fine crumbs will give a similar texture with a more caramelised flavour.

Add Whipped Cream Topping – A dollop of whipped cream on top of the crumbs makes the cups more indulgent and party-ready.

Decorate with Gummy Bears – Instead of fizzy worms, try gummy bears “playing in the mud.” They make the dessert even more appealing to younger children.

Storage and Shelf Life

Muddy Puddle Cups can be kept in the fridge, covered or in an airtight container, for up to 3 days. Add the cookie crumbs, syrup, and decorations only before serving so they stay fresh and crunchy.

I don’t recommend freezing, as panna cotta tends to separate once thawed. If serving to younger children, cut gummy decorations into smaller pieces to avoid choking hazards.

Serving Suggestions

These cups are perfect for children’s birthdays, especially Peppa Pig-themed parties. Use clear cups so the layers stand out, and add colourful umbrellas for a playful touch. They fit well on a dessert table with other fun treats, or can be served individually with small spoons for easy eating.

For adults, leave out the worms and umbrellas and top with chocolate shavings for a more refined look.

I love this space Manu though I don’t have little kiddies anymore. Just adorable and so kiddie friendly too. Those piggie buns from the last posts and this little Georgie bday celebration. Happy 3rd B-day.
